Herbal Liquor - Yao Jiu: Urter i Alkohol eller olie
Herbs are mixed with alcohol to make an herbal liquor. Chinese wine (Jiu) is regarded as a medical drink in Chinese Herbal Medicine. Chinese wine is acrid, sweet, and bitter in taste and heat in nature. It unblocks meridians and moves Qi, strengthens spleen and stomach, and expels wind. It’s a good company for taking Chinese herbs. For instance, the herbs can be decocted with herbs, the decoction can be drinking with wine, the powder of herbs can be taken by drinking wine, the powder can be mixed with wine and applied as plaster on skin, etc. Around 2000 years ago, Chinese Wine has been recorded to be used to treat chest and abdominal pain, indigestion.
Generally speaking, herbal liquor has two way of use i.e. internal (drinking) and external. In this class, we will focus on the external use.
The function of internal use herbal liquor varies according to the herbs. It’s more commonly used to supplement the organs. For instance, herbal liquor with Ginseng supplements Qi in general, with Gou Qi Zi (Chinese wolfberry) supplements Kidney Qi, with Tian Men Dong (lucid asparagus (Asparagus cochinchinensis)) or Mai Men Dong (Radix Ophiopogonis) supplement Lung Qi, etc. The external use of herbal liquor with Chuan Wu (Aconitum carmichaelii / Radix), Wu Gong (centipede, Scolopendra subspinipes) treats rheumatoid arthritis (damp heat in joints).
The class will take place over two days: February 3rd, 9.00 - 17.00: The first day we will prepare all the liquors. February 14th 9.00 - 17.00: The second day, we will learn how to apply the liqours for external use f. ex:

Since 2004, I’ve been studying TCM in Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CDUTCM), located in Chengdu, one of the four earliest TCM universities in China.
In 2011, I graduated with a Master Degree of Clinical Medicine (Oncology). After three years of foundational study, from 2007 on, clinical internship was involved in my medical study. I’ve been learning with experienced TCM masters and doctors from the Teaching Hospital of CDUTCM, Sichuan Provincial Hospital, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, all top general hospitals in South-west China.
The clinical departments I studied in including acupuncture, neurology, dermatology, gynecology, pediatrics, oncology, nephrology, cardiology, gastrology, psychology, etc.
